Abbotsford Canucks advance to Calder Cup Final, to face Charlotte Checkers

Arshdeep Bains scored twice to help the Abbotsford Canucks secure a 4-2 victory over the Texas Stars in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final, propelling them to the Calder Cup Final.

The American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate of the Vancouver Canucks is heading to the championship series.

Abbotsford clinched their spot in the Calder Cup Final by defeating the Texas Stars 4-2 in Game 6 of the Western Conference Final on Sunday.

Trailing 2-0 in Game 6, Abbotsford staged a comeback with four unanswered goals, including a pair from Arshdeep Bains, to secure the series win and advance.

Canucks goaltender Arturs Silovs was solid in net, stopping 23 out of 25 shots for the win.

In the Calder Cup Final, the Canucks will compete against the Charlotte Checkers, the AHL team affiliated with the Florida Panthers. Charlotte earned their place in the final by sweeping the Laval Rocket in the Eastern Conference Finals.

This marks the first time since 2008 that a single NHL organization has reached both the Stanley Cup Final and the Calder Cup Final in the same year.

The Calder Cup Final series is scheduled to begin on Friday in Charlotte with Game 1.
