Alizé Cornet, a French tennis player, is set to return to professional tennis less than a year after her retirement at the French Open.
The 35-year-old has revealed her plans to compete on clay courts in the coming months. Her comeback will begin at the La Bisbal d`Empordà WTA 125 event on March 31. Following this, she will participate in the Open Capfinances Rouen Métropole, a WTA tournament, on April 14, thanks to a wild card entry. Cornet also intends to play in the qualifying rounds for the WTA 1000 events in Madrid and Rome.
Cornet shared her excitement online, stating that after eight weeks of intense training following her retirement, she is eager to return to the court. She expressed that her desire to compete is strong, even if it`s just for a few tournaments. She has been working hard and is looking forward to sharing her passion for tennis with fans.
Alizé Cornet, who once held the No. 11 ranking, last played at Roland Garros the previous year, losing in the first round to Zheng Qinwen. She was honored in an emotional ceremony after the match, celebrating her accomplished career. Her most recent professional victory was at the WTA 125 event in Paris last May against Olivia Gadecki, where she reached the quarterfinals. Her last win at the tour level was against Yanina Wickmayer at Cluj-Napoca in February of the same year.
Cornet`s professional career began in 2004. She has won six WTA Tour titles, holds the record for 69 consecutive Grand Slam main draw appearances, and has achieved 25 wins against Top 10 players, including victories over Serena Williams, Simona Halep, Aryna Sabalenka, and Iga Swiatek. Despite her retirement, she remains in the WTA rankings at No. 523.
