Gabriel Landeskog, the captain of the Colorado Avalanche, is progressing towards his return to the NHL.
On Wednesday, the Avalanche announced that Landeskog has been assigned to the Colorado Eagles in the AHL for a conditioning stint.
Landeskog has been sidelined since the 2022 Stanley Cup Final due to several injuries. However, he has been practicing with the Avalanche recently and aims to return during the playoffs.
Avalanche coach Jared Bednar suggested Landeskog might play some AHL games before the end of the season, and this assignment confirms that plan.
Bednar mentioned on Monday that Landeskog has increased his on-ice time and training intensity. The team is monitoring his response daily to plan his next steps.
Landeskog, aged 32, has played 738 games over 11 seasons in his career, accumulating 248 goals and 571 points.
