Bokondji Imama`s season has ended prematurely.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced on Saturday that Imama had successful surgery at UPMC Mercy Hospital to repair a bicep injury. His expected recovery period is between four and six months.

Imama, 28, was playing in his fourth NHL season, recording one goal and 30 penalty minutes in 16 games. The Montreal native also played 24 games in the AHL, contributing five points.

The timing of Imama`s injury is unclear. He played for 5:41 on Tuesday, consistent with his season average, but missed Pittsburgh`s game against the Buffalo Sabres on Thursday.

Originally drafted in the sixth round in 2015, Imama has played in the NHL with the Arizona Coyotes and Ottawa Senators before joining Pittsburgh. He is scheduled to become an unrestricted free agent this summer.
