Caleb Plant Defends Devin Haney’s Performance Against Jose Ramirez

Former world champion Caleb Plant believes that Devin Haney should not face criticism for the unexciting nature of his fight against Jose Ramirez.

Plant shared his perspective: “When I observed Devin in the first round, I initially thought, `Okay, perhaps he`s just trying to understand the opponent. Maybe he`s a bit unsettled after the Ryan Garcia fight and will find his rhythm.` But you cannot sustain that level of nervous energy for the entire 12 rounds. You can only fight like that for a full 12 rounds if that was the specific plan you prepared for. It clearly demonstrates their strategy for the fight. That`s exactly what was expected of Haney.”

He further elaborated, “It demands considerable discipline and concentration to execute that game plan for 36 minutes. Jose is not a simple punching bag, and it was not Devin`s obligation to make the fight more competitive. Devin`s objective is to win with the least possible difficulty. Making the fight more engaging was Jose`s responsibility. His job was to find openings. He had trouble delivering his punches effectively without being planted in place. Did he succeed in making the fight more interesting? No,” Plant stated.

For context, Haney secured a victory over Ramirez by unanimous decision on May 2.
