The Montreal Canadiens have strengthened their goaltending depth ahead of Game 4 of their series against the Washington Capitals.

Goaltender Cayden Primeau has been called up from the Laval Rocket, their affiliate in the American Hockey League (AHL). The team made this announcement on Sunday morning.

This decision comes after their starting goalie, Sam Montembeault, left Game 3 on Friday due to a lower-body injury, making his status uncertain.

Head coach Martin St. Louis mentioned on Saturday that Montembeault has not yet been definitively ruled out for Game 4 and is still undergoing evaluation.

Should Montembeault be unable to play, Jakub Dobes is anticipated to start in goal. Dobes played in relief on Friday, stopping seven out of eight shots.

Dobes, who is 23 years old, had a solid rookie season, achieving a 2.74 goals-against average and a .909 save percentage over 16 games.

Washington currently leads the series 2-1.

Game 4 is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m. ET / 3:30 p.m. PT.
