2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs

In Game 2 of their best-of-seven first-round series on Wednesday night, the Washington Capitals defeated the Montreal Canadiens by a score of 3-1 to take a commanding 2-0 series lead. Connor McMichael and Dylan Strome netted goals just a minute apart early in the second period, providing the offensive spark for Washington.

Capitals goaltender Logan Thompson delivered a spectacular performance, making 25 saves throughout the game. His most crucial stops came in the third period, where he denied Josh Anderson on a clean 2-on-0 breakaway and later reacted quickly to get his stick on a deflection attempt by Christian Dvorak. Thompson`s stellar play, in just his second game back from injury, was recognized by the home crowd with chants of “L-T! L-T!” and a well-deserved standing ovation.

McMichael ultimately sealed the victory with an empty-net goal, his second tally of the night. Christian Dvorak scored the lone goal for the Canadiens, while their goaltender, Sam Montembeault, made 29 saves in the effort.
