The Washington Capitals have announced that defenseman Martin Fehervary will miss the remainder of the current season and playoffs.

Fehervary, 25, has been sidelined after undergoing surgery to repair his right meniscus. The team confirmed the procedure on Tuesday.

The injury occurred on April 15 during a victory against the New York Islanders, where he appeared to twist his ankle. He was subsequently unavailable for Washington`s first playoff game against the Montreal Canadiens on Monday.

During the regular season, the Slovakian blueliner participated in 81 games. He contributed 5 goals and 20 assists, averaging 19 minutes of ice time per game.

In Fehervary`s absence for Game 1, Alex Alexeyev stepped into the lineup, playing on the third defensive pairing alongside Trevor van Riemsdyk.
