
The Washington Capitals have secured a key player for their team depth.
Nic Dowd, a fourth-line forward, has agreed to a two-year contract extension with Washington, valued at $6 million. The team made the announcement on Wednesday.
This season marked a career-best for Dowd, 34, who tallied 27 points (14 goals, 13 assists) across 81 games for the Capitals, who lead the Eastern Conference.
Originally from Huntsville, Alabama, Dowd is currently playing his 11th season in the NHL and his seventh with the Capitals.
Over his NHL career spanning 581 games with the Capitals, Vancouver Canucks, and Los Angeles Kings, Dowd has accumulated 84 goals and 92 assists.
