Capitals vs. Canadiens: Round 1 Playoff Matchup

By Emily Sadler

Meaningful hockey games were played in March.

Many expected the 2024-25 Montreal Canadiens to play important hockey games in March. After three years at the bottom of their division and a significant team change, this season was seen as the start of their journey towards becoming contenders.

However, the young Canadiens exceeded expectations, turning their March progress into a strong April finish and securing a playoff spot.

On the other hand, the Washington Capitals seemed headed for a rebuild at the start of the season. After barely making the playoffs last year as a wild card team, they were quickly swept by the New York Rangers in the first round. Their offense struggled, and Alex Ovechkin had his first pointless playoff series.
