The Charleston Open is set to become the first clay court tournament on the Hologic WTA Tour to implement Electronic Line Calling Live (ELC Live) during its event from March 29th to April 6th.

ELC Live, which automatically calls lines throughout matches, has been successfully used on various court surfaces. Charleston will be the first WTA clay tournament to use this technology for both qualifying and main draw matches.

ELC Live improves accuracy and consistency, a result of extensive testing. This season, it will also be adopted at the WTA 1000 Mutua Madrid Open and Italian Open in Rome.

Bob Moran, Charleston Tournament Director, stated, “The integration of Electronic Line Calling at the Charleston Open marks a significant advancement, not just for our tournament, but for all WTA clay events. This innovative technology enhances the precision and reliability of line calls on clay, establishing a new benchmark in tennis. By adopting this innovation, we are improving the experience for players and fans and raising the standard of competition at clay tournaments.”

Fabrice Chouquet, WTA Senior Vice President – Competition & On-Site Operations, commented, “We appreciate Charleston`s adoption of ELC Live this year and are excited to see more WTA tournaments utilize the benefits of evolving technology. ELC Live provides consistent and accurate line calls, minimizing interruptions and benefiting players, fans, media, and the overall tournament operations.”

This is part of a broader set of innovations on the Hologic WTA Tour, including the Video Review System, which is also available on two courts in Charleston.
