Charlie McAvoy`s last game was on February 15th, a 3-1 victory for the USA against Canada in the 4 Nations Face-Off.
Since then, the Boston Bruins defenseman`s season took a dramatic turn. A shoulder injury led to hospitalization due to an infection, preventing his return to the NHL.
`Mentally, emotionally, and physically, I`ve endured so much because of that experience. It ruined my season and, in many ways, my peace of mind,` McAvoy stated on Thursday, shortly after the Bruins` season concluded.
The 27-year-old, originally from Long Beach, New York, played a key role in the USA`s win over Canada. However, he soon found himself in the spotlight for different reasons, amidst reports of the Bruins` dissatisfaction with how Team USA managed his injury.
Subsequently, McAvoy underwent a procedure to treat the infection resulting from his shoulder injury.
`This entire ordeal has been incredibly challenging, and it`s still emotional for me to discuss,` he admitted. `Participating in such an event was a lifelong aspiration, but the way it ended and the subsequent difficulties I faced were far more than I anticipated. It`s truly unfortunate.`
`However, it`s behind me now. I can finally put it to rest after discussing it. I don`t want to revisit this topic because it has cost me dearly.`
