David Carle Withdraws from Chicago Blackhawks Head Coach Search

The search for the next head coach of the Chicago Blackhawks is ongoing following a recent development.

According to a Saturday report from Elliotte Friedman of Sportsnet, David Carle has withdrawn his name from consideration for the head coach position, despite an “aggressive pursuit” by the Blackhawks organization.

Carle, a 35-year-old native of Anchorage, Alaska, boasts an impressive resume. He has led the United States national junior team to consecutive gold medals and has been the head coach at the University of Denver since 2018, securing NCAA national championships for the team in 2022 and 2024.

Speaking on the 32 Thoughts podcast in January, Friedman speculated whether an NHL team might pursue Carle, noting that Carle might prefer to remain in his current role at the University of Denver.

Friedman elaborated on the podcast, suggesting Carle is in a desirable position at Denver and has significant leverage. He speculated that Carle might require a substantial offer to leave his current role, citing his young family and comfortable lifestyle. Friedman expressed surprise that NHL teams wouldn`t recognize Carle`s coaching prowess based on his success, arguing that NHL players observe these tournaments and can identify effective coaches. He also added that numerous current NHL players who previously played for or against Denver would likely attest to Carle`s coaching capabilities.

This development leaves the Blackhawks searching for a permanent replacement after firing Luke Richardson in December. Anders Sorensen served as the interim head coach for the rest of the season. Chicago finished second-to-last in the Western Conference with a 25-46-11 record and missed the playoffs.
