Dustin Poirier has confirmed he held interest in potentially fighting former featherweight champion Ilia Topuria, particularly if Topuria were to transition to the lightweight division.
Poirier clarified that the UFC never formally offered him a fight against Topuria. He stated that after hearing of Topuria`s plans to move up to 70 kg (which is equivalent to 155 lbs, the lightweight limit), he took the initiative to contact the UFC brass. Poirier informed the promotion of his interest in facing Topuria at that weight class. However, according to “The Diamond,” his inquiry was not seemingly given attention, and he was ultimately told that such a fight “wouldn`t happen.”
