Despite a strong run for the St. Louis Blues recently, they are now dealing with an injury to one of their key offensive players.
Dylan Holloway, a forward for the Blues, was unable to continue in Thursday`s game against the Pittsburgh Penguins due to a lower-body injury. He played just over five minutes in the first period before being sidelined for the rest of the game.
The injury to Holloway seemed to occur after a hit from Penguins forward Rutger McGroarty in the first period`s final minutes.
McGroarty`s hit on Holloway in Pittsburgh`s zone followed a scoring opportunity. Holloway went to the bench immediately after the hit, briefly returned for another shift, but did not come back to the ice after the first period.
Blues coach Jim Montgomery did not provide an update on Holloway`s condition after their 5-4 victory.
Holloway, who is 23 years old, is having his best season with the Blues, his first year with the team. Before Thursday`s game, he had achieved career highs with 26 goals and 37 assists in 76 games.
This past off-season, the Blues signed Holloway and Philip Broberg after the Edmonton Oilers chose not to match their offers, bringing both players to St. Louis on two-year contracts.
Holloway`s impressive performance has been instrumental in the Blues` resurgence and their push for a Western Conference playoff spot. Currently on an 11-game winning streak, the Blues are holding a wild-card position.
