Ekholm Set for Oilers’ 2025 Playoff Debut in Game 5 Against Dallas Stars

While the Edmonton Oilers deal with an injury to one key player, another important member of the team is making his return to the lineup.

Defenceman Mattias Ekholm is expected to play in Game 5 of the Western Conference Final series against the Dallas Stars, a move officially confirmed by the team on Thursday.

Ekholm took part in Thursday`s morning skate, practicing on a defensive pairing alongside Evan Bouchard. His return comes as forward Zach Hyman is reportedly sidelined for the rest of the season, with Corey Perry stepping into his spot.

Having been out of action since mid-April, Thursday night`s contest will mark Ekholm`s first appearance in the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Before his injury, he posted nine goals and 33 points during the current season. Over his career, the veteran blueliner has accumulated 12 goals and 52 points across 112 playoff games.
