“Embarrassing”: Islanders Players Angered by Disallowed Goal in Loss

Watch as New York Islanders` Alexander Romanov scores a go-ahead goal in the dying seconds, but it gets waved off due to a goalie interference.

Kyle Palmieri and the New York Islanders were clearly very unhappy with the officiating in their Monday night loss.

The forward believed he had scored the game-winning goal, his second of the game and 23rd of the season, when he deflected the puck past Columbus Blue Jackets goalie Elvis Merzlikins with 10 seconds left. However, the goal was immediately disallowed by the officials due to goalie interference.

New York lost 4-3 in a shootout, suffering their second straight defeat. This is a painful loss for a team that is just one point behind the Montreal Canadiens in the Eastern Conference wild card race.

After the game, Palmieri reacted strongly to the incident, calling the on-ice decision “f***ing embarrassing,” according to Ethan Sears of the *New York Post*.

When asked if he received an explanation for the disallowed goal, Palmieri replied that the official mentioned `contact in the crease`.

The winger then added, “I guess the goalie needs five minutes to reset and get ready for the shot. It looked like (the official) just couldn`t wait to wave it off.”
