Flames Edge Out Golden Knights in Shootout, But Playoff Hopes Dashed

CALGARY – Morgan Frost ended his 25-game goal drought in dramatic fashion, scoring a crucial goal in regulation and then netting the shootout winner as the Calgary Flames rallied to defeat the Vegas Golden Knights 5-4.

Nazem Kadri tallied his 33rd goal of the season, a personal best, while Mikael Backlund and Adam Klapka also contributed goals for Calgary (40-27-14). Although the Flames extended their point streak to seven games (5-0-2), their playoff aspirations were extinguished as they will miss the postseason for the third year running.

The Flames entered the game with a slim chance for a Western Conference wild-card spot, contingent on other results. However, victories by both the Minnesota Wild and St. Louis Blues earlier in the evening sealed Calgary`s fate, eliminating them from playoff contention.
