SUNRISE, Fla. — Brad Marchand marked his first game with Florida by setting up Sam Bennett`s decisive goal in overtime, leading the Panthers to a 2-1 victory against the Utah Hockey Club on Friday night. The overtime winner came with just 41.1 seconds remaining on the clock.
Sam Bennett was the hero of the night for Florida, scoring both of their goals. His first goal tied the game in the second period, with assists from Mackie Samoskevich and Aleksander Barkov. Utah managed to level the score early in the third period thanks to Sean Durzi.
This victory propels Florida back to the summit of the Atlantic Division standings, boasting a record of 44-25-3 and 91 points. They are now one point ahead of Toronto and two points ahead of Tampa Bay. With 10 games remaining for each team, Florida is set to face these divisional rivals multiple times in the final stretch, including two games against Toronto and one against Tampa Bay.
During the first period, the Panthers took a moment to honor Utah`s forward Kevin Stenlund, continuing their tradition of celebrating former players who were part of last year`s Stanley Cup-winning team. Stenlund received a video tribute and a warm ovation from the crowd, which he acknowledged with a wave.
Kevin Stenlund had previously received his Stanley Cup ring in early January when the Panthers played a game in Utah.
