Frank Warren, promoter for Joe Joyce, the former WBO interim heavyweight champion, has spoken about Joyce`s recent defeat against Filip Hrgovic.
Warren stated, “I didn`t want to say this publicly, but it`s going to be very tough for him to climb back up the rankings. He has been an incredible and brave fighter for many years, a successful amateur and an Olympic silver medalist. I believe he will consider his future plans. A reality in boxing is that age can become a significant factor.”
Warren continued, “I was genuinely surprised by the outcome. When Joyce absorbed some heavy blows early on, I thought he might be defeated quickly. However, Joe withstood those punches. The fans clearly love him, don`t they? He`s a good man. The judges didn`t score the fight in his favor, but I won`t criticize a man who gave his all.” Warren`s comments were reported by The Ring.
To recap, Hrgovic won against Joyce by a unanimous decision from the judges in the main event of a boxing night in Manchester on April 5th.
