Georges St-Pierre, the legendary former UFC champion, recently commented on the anticipated matchup between current heavyweight champion Jon Jones and interim titleholder Tom Aspinall.
Drawing on his own career experience, St-Pierre offered advice to Aspinall: “I remember after losing to Matt Serra, I made the mistake of fixating on him and an immediate rematch. But I fought a few times before that happened,” St-Pierre explained in an interview with Ariel Helwani. “If Tom focuses solely on Jon Jones and Jones doesn’t come back quickly, Aspinall will focus on the wrong things. He needs to distract himself and think about what to do next.”
St-Pierre emphasized the importance for Aspinall to stay active and consider future opponents or bouts, rather than becoming overly preoccupied with a fight against Jones that may not happen soon.
