The much-anticipated list of goaltenders selected for the NHL`s Quarter-Century Team has finally been announced, and the lineup of stars is undeniably impressive.
Martin Brodeur, Carey Price, Marc-Andre Fleury, Patrick Roy, Roberto Luongo, and Henrik Lundqvist are the final six players joining the ranks, having been voted as the six best goaltenders of the 21st century.
Brodeur`s inclusion on this list is hardly a surprise, widely considered by many to be the greatest goaltender of all time. This Hall of Famer holds the all-time records for games played by a netminder (1,266), career wins (691), and shutouts (125). He concluded his career with a .912 save percentage and a 2.24 goals-against average.
Beyond his remarkable statistical achievements across 22 seasons in the league, the Montreal native collected numerous accolades, including three Stanley Cups, four Vezina Trophies, a Calder Trophy, and five Jennings Trophies.
Carey Price`s selection highlights one of the most dominant individual peaks ever witnessed from an NHL goaltender. His 2014-15 campaign was particularly extraordinary, leading the league with 44 wins, a .933 save percentage, and a 1.96 GAA. That season earned him the Hart, Vezina, and Jennings Trophies, as well as the Ted Lindsay Award, making him only the eighth goaltender in history and the second in the 21st century to win the Hart Trophy.
Throughout his 15-year career, spent entirely with the Montreal Canadiens, Price maintained an excellent .917 save percentage and 2.51 GAA, alongside 361 wins and 49 shutouts in 700 starts. He was also instrumental in Team Canada`s gold medal victory at the 2014 Olympics, posting an incredible five wins with a 0.59 GAA and .972 save percentage.
Marc-Andre Fleury is the most recent player in this group to retire, concluding his career at the end of the 2024-25 season. The three-time Stanley Cup champion finished his distinguished 21-year career with one Vezina and one Jennings Trophy. Across 886 starts for the Penguins, Golden Knights, Blackhawks, and Wild, the Quebec-born goaltender recorded a .912 save percentage and 2.60 GAA. His 575 career wins are the highest total among all goaltenders over the last 25 years.
Although Patrick Roy only played 3.5 seasons within the last 25-year timeframe, his legendary career accomplishments are undeniable. Even in his later years, he was a key figure for the Colorado Avalanche, helping them secure a Stanley Cup in 2001. His trophy case is the stuff of legend, boasting four Stanley Cups, three Conn Smythe Trophies, and three Vezina Trophies. Over his 19 seasons and 1,029 games, he maintained a lifetime .910 save percentage and 2.54 GAA.
Roberto Luongo possesses one of the most statistically impressive résumés from the last 25 years. His 1,044 games played and 489 wins rank second among all goaltenders, while his 77 shutouts are second only to Martin Brodeur in NHL history. In 19 seasons split between the Islanders, Panthers, and Canucks, the Montreal native posted a .919 save percentage and 2.52 GAA. He also won two Olympic gold medals with Team Canada in 2010 and 2014.
The only non-Canadian member of the group, Henrik “King Henrik” Lundqvist, was a dominant force for the New York Rangers over 15 seasons. He compiled a stellar .918 save percentage, 2.43 GAA, and 459 wins across 887 regular-season starts. Lundqvist`s peak performance came in the 2011-12 season, where his .930 save percentage and 1.97 GAA led to his first and only Vezina Trophy.
