Former UFC competitor Dan Hardy shared his perspective on the potential transition of Islam Makhachev to the welterweight division.
Speaking in an interview with Submission Radio, Hardy compared who he thinks would fare better at 170 pounds between Makhachev and the retired Khabib Nurmagomedov.
“Who would be more successful at welterweight, Islam or Khabib? I believe it would be Islam,” Hardy stated. He elaborated on his reasoning, saying, “He appears slightly bigger than Khabib when they are competing at lightweight. This physical difference leads me to think he would manage the move up to welterweight more effectively.”
Hardy also pointed to Makhachev`s technical development: “Furthermore, Makhachev has significantly enhanced his striking skills since experiencing his only professional defeat. Overall, Islam represents a more versatile mixed martial artist.”
