Hurricanes Steal Home Ice with Dominant Game 1 Performance

The Carolina Hurricanes kicked off their second-round playoff series against the Washington Capitals with an overtime win on the road. By all accounts, the victory was well-deserved by the Hurricanes.

Despite largely controlling the flow of the game, Carolina found themselves trailing 1-0 in the final period. However, Logan Stankoven scored the tying goal halfway through the third, and Jaccob Slavin secured the comeback win by netting the overtime winner.

While Alex Ovechkin delivered a couple of significant hits during Tuesday`s series opener, the NHL`s all-time leading scorer managed only a single shot on target throughout the game.

After Slavin beat Washington`s goalie with a slap shot just three minutes and six seconds into the extra frame, fans at Capital One Arena in Washington began a quiet exit.
