Top UFC welterweight contender Ian Garry recently shared his views on the championship clash between Jack Della Maddalena and Belal Muhammad. The fight took place on May 11th at UFC 315 in Montreal, Canada, where Della Maddalena earned a unanimous decision victory to claim the welterweight title.
Commenting on the bout, Garry stated, “When I watched their fight live, they both seemed slow to me.” However, he noted a significant difference upon reviewing the recording. “Then I looked at the recording on TV, and the difference was huge,” Garry explained. “Jack looked precise and quick compared to Muhammad.” Despite this improved appearance, Garry added a caveat based on his own standards: “But judging by my standards, there were many moments where he didn’t look that great in terms of technique.”
Ultimately, Garry attributed Della Maddalena`s win to his advantage in the stand-up department. “However, Jack is definitely better in striking than Belal, so he could not lose in any way,” he concluded, reinforcing that “Belal has never been known for his striking.”
