Ilia Topuria Set for Lightweight Title Fight vs. Oliveira, Regrets Makhachev’s ‘Escape’

Former UFC featherweight champion Ilia Topuria issued a statement following the official announcement of UFC 317.

It was recently confirmed that Topuria is scheduled to face Charles Oliveira in the main event on June 28 in Las Vegas, USA. The bout will be contested for the undisputed lightweight championship. This title opportunity arose as the reigning lightweight champion, Islam Makhachev, has reportedly opted to move up to the welterweight division for a fight against the new champion, Jack Della Maddalena.

Commenting on the development, Topuria took to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), writing: “`On June 28, another dream will come true. I will become the champion in the lightweight division. Charles, I apologize in advance… I am just fighting for my dream. It’s a pity that Makhachev ran away. 17-0.`”
