Islanders re-sign Kyle Palmieri, Adam Boqvist

The New York Islanders have addressed significant roster needs by re-signing forward Kyle Palmieri and defenceman Adam Boqvist to new contracts.

Palmieri`s agreement is for two years, reportedly carrying an average annual value (AAV) of $4.75 million. Boqvist signed a one-year contract valued at $850,000.

These deals were finalized before the team appointed Mathieu Darche as their new general manager.

Palmieri, aged 34, completed his fourth full season with the Islanders. In the most recent season, he played in all 82 games, scoring 24 goals and adding 24 assists. The Islanders acquired Palmieri in a trade with the New Jersey Devils in April 2021. Throughout his NHL career, which spans over 900 games with the Islanders, Devils, and Anaheim Ducks, the American forward has accumulated 527 points from 270 goals and 257 assists.

Boqvist, a 24-year-old Swedish defenceman, joined the Islanders last season after being claimed off waivers from the Florida Panthers in January. He appeared in 35 NHL games for the team, recording four goals and 10 assists. Drafted eighth overall by the Chicago Blackhawks in the 2018 NHL Draft out of the London Knights program, Boqvist has played 244 career NHL games across six seasons with the Islanders, Panthers, Columbus Blue Jackets, and Blackhawks, totaling 99 points (27 goals, 72 assists).
