Islanders Sign KHL Standout Maxim Shabanov

The New York Islanders have bolstered their roster by signing Maxim Shabanov, a highly sought-after free agent from the KHL. The team officially announced on Wednesday that they have agreed to a one-year, entry-level contract with the forward.

The 24-year-old had a remarkable season in the KHL with Traktor Chelyabinsk. In 65 games, he achieved career-highs across the board, tallying 67 points from 23 goals and 44 assists. He also posted an impressive plus-minus rating of plus-17.

Shabanov continued his stellar performance in the playoffs, helping Traktor reach the Gagarin Cup Final. In 21 postseason games, he recorded 20 points (10 goals, 10 assists), leading the KHL playoffs in both goals scored and plus-minus (plus-14).

Throughout his KHL career with Traktor, Shabanov accumulated 150 points (67 goals, 83 assists) over 207 regular-season contests. He added 31 points (13 goals, 18 assists) in 36 career KHL playoff appearances.
