Jets Clinch Top Seed in Western Conference with Victory Over Blackhawks

CHICAGO — In a thrilling shootout, Kyle Connor and Cole Perfetti scored to lead the Winnipeg Jets to a 5-4 victory over the Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday night. This win secured the Jets` first Central Division title and the coveted No. 1 seed in the Western Conference playoffs.

The Jets have been on a roll, winning four of their last five games. Their road performance this season has been exceptional, setting a franchise record with 26-15-0 away from home.

Josh Morrissey was a standout performer, scoring two goals in the third period for Winnipeg after they were down 2-0 after the first period. Connor contributed a goal and an assist during regulation time, and Nino Niederreiter also found the back of the net.

A setback for Winnipeg came when forward Nikolaj Ehlers had to leave the game in the second period. Ehlers, a key player with 24 goals and 39 assists in 69 games, was injured after an accidental collision with a game official and needed assistance to leave the ice.

For Chicago, Frank Nazar and Connor Bedard each tallied a goal and an assist in their home season finale. Ryan Donato also scored, and Nick Foligno, the team captain, added a short-handed goal.

The game marked the final NHL appearance for Blackhawks players Pat Maroon and Alec Martinez. The Blackhawks honored both veterans with highlight videos during the game, recognizing their contributions to the sport.

In a display of respect, the Jets remained on the ice after the game to participate in a handshake line with Maroon and Martinez.

Morrissey`s long slap shot in the third period gave Winnipeg a 3-2 lead, marking his 13th goal of the season. However, Donato quickly answered for Chicago, scoring his 31st goal of the season and extending his career high.
