Former UFC champion Demetrious Johnson has voiced criticism regarding the promotion`s intention to schedule a bout between Ilia Topuria and Paddy Pimblett.
Johnson stated:
“The next contender in the lightweight division should be Arman Tsarukyan. This situation is devolving into a reality show [referencing the staged octagon staredown between Topuria and Pimblett]. Tsarukyan is clearly the top contender for the title; he is ranked first in the division. However, the UFC appears to be forcing this fight between Ilya and Paddy upon us, likely because it`s expected to generate more sales.”
