Vancouver Canucks winger Kiefer Sherwood has etched his name into NHL history on Saturday.
Surpassing all previous records, Sherwood now holds the NHL single-season hits record with an astounding 384 hits during the 2024-25 season.
The record-breaking hit occurred early in the first period against the New York Rangers when Sherwood collided with his former teammate, Carson Soucy.
He overtakes the previous record of 383 hits, which was set just last season by Nashville Predators defenseman Jeremy Lauzon. Interestingly, Sherwood and Lauzon were teammates in Nashville when Lauzon set the old record.
Following Lauzon, the next three highest single-season hit totals are all credited to New York Islanders winger Matt Martin, with 382 in 2014-15, 374 in 2011-12, and 365 in 2015-16.
Entering Saturday`s game, Sherwood already had an impressive 383 hits in 65 games, a significant 123 hits more than Luke Schenn and Mathieu Olivier, who were tied for second place with 260 hits each.
This season, Sherwood has also contributed offensively, recording 15 goals and 14 assists.
