Liverpool stands as one of the premier football clubs in both England and Europe, having been graced by many legendary players throughout its history. But who holds the record for the most goals scored for the Reds?
Leading the all-time scoring charts is Ian Rush, who netted an impressive 346 goals in 660 appearances over his two periods at the club.
His most prolific and impactful season was 1983-84, where he bagged 47 goals in 65 games. This remarkable tally earned him the Golden Boot in both the league and the European Cup, contributing significantly to Liverpool`s league and European Cup double that year.
In second place is Roger Hunt, notably the only Liverpool player in England`s starting eleven during their 1966 World Cup final victory. Hunt scored 285 goals across his 492 appearances for the club.
Hunt was instrumental in Liverpool`s return to the First Division. In the 1961-62 season, his 41 goals in 41 league games propelled Liverpool to the top of the Second Division, securing automatic promotion. The following season, after consolidating their place, Hunt again led the scoring charts (31 goals in 41 league appearances) as the Reds clinched a memorable First Division title in 1963-64.
Completing the top three is Mohamed Salah, who overtook Gordon Hodgson in the 2024-25 season.
Steven Gerrard, widely considered one of Liverpool`s greatest ever players and a premier midfielder of his era, ranks sixth on the scoring list with 186 goals from 710 appearances over 17 years – placing him third for total appearances in club history.
Other prominent figures include Robbie Fowler (183 goals, seventh), Kenny Dalglish (172 goals, eighth), and Michael Owen (158 goals, ninth), all achieving their tallies during distinguished careers at Anfield.
Rounding out the top 10 is Harry Chambers, who scored 151 goals in 339 appearances.
Mohamed Salah is the sole currently active player within the top 20. Following the departures of Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino, `The Egyptian King` first overtook the iconic Steven Gerrard early in the 2023-24 season, and then surpassed both Billy Liddell and Gordon Hodgson in the 2024-25 season to claim the third position.
