John Tavares` impressive goal-scoring streak has earned him league-wide recognition.
The Toronto Maple Leafs center was announced as the NHL`s second star of the month on Tuesday. This places him behind Jack Eichel of the Vegas Golden Knights, who claimed the first star, and ahead of Jordan Binnington, the goaltender for the St. Louis Blues, who was named third star.
Tavares was the top goal-scorer in the league for March, netting an impressive 13 goals. This is the highest number of goals scored by any player in a single calendar month throughout this season.
His remarkable scoring run included a five-game goal streak, which concluded on Sunday in a game against the Anaheim Ducks.
In March, Tavares also celebrated reaching another milestone in his career, recording his 1,100th point. The 34-year-old, who was the first overall pick in the 2009 NHL Entry Draft, is also approaching the 500-goal mark, currently sitting at 498 career goals.
During March, the Toronto Maple Leafs had a record of 8 wins, 5 losses, and 2 overtime losses. They are currently leading the Atlantic Division with a three-point advantage as they head into a crucial game against the Florida Panthers on Wednesday.
Jack Eichel`s outstanding performance in March included leading the league with 23 points in 14 games, helping the Golden Knights secure their spot in the playoffs.
Jordan Binnington, following his strong showing for Canada at the 4 Nations Face-Off, continued his excellent form by winning eight out of nine starts for the Blues. The team is currently enjoying a nine-game winning streak as they enter April.
