The Toronto Maple Leafs have received encouraging news regarding their lineup.
Head coach Craig Berube confirmed to reporters on Sunday that top-line forward Matthew Knies is set to play in the decisive Game 7 against the Florida Panthers.
Knies participated in the team`s morning skate session, practicing in his usual spot alongside Mitch Marner and Auston Matthews.
The young forward appeared to be struggling with discomfort during Game 6 on Friday following an awkward collision with Panthers defenseman Niko Mikkola in the first period.
Despite remaining on the bench for the game, the 23-year-old logged only 13:01 of ice time, significantly below his playoff average of 20:11.
On Saturday, Berube had informed reporters that he had not yet seen Knies and could not provide an update on his status.
When asked about limiting Knies` minutes in Game 6 due to his apparent discomfort, Berube described the decision as “situational,” based on conversations with the player.
On the Florida side, head coach Paul Maurice did not definitively state whether forward Evan Rodrigues would play. Rodrigues missed Games 5 and 6 after a solid hit from Oliver Ekman-Larsson, but Maurice indicated he feels good.
Game 7 between Toronto and Florida is scheduled for Sunday, with puck drop at 7:30 p.m. ET / 4:30 p.m. PT.
