Brad Marchand remains a persistent challenge for the Toronto Maple Leafs, especially when facing them in a crucial Game 7. Throughout his long career with the Boston Bruins, Marchand held a perfect 4-0 record against the Maple Leafs in these winner-take-all situations.
Now wearing the colours of the Florida Panthers, Marchand maintained this pattern of dominance. He contributed to the Panthers` decisive 6-1 victory on Sunday, which ultimately ended Toronto`s season. With this win, Marchand made NHL history by becoming the first player to secure five Game 7 victories against a single opposing franchise.
The player often considered a nemesis by the Maple Leafs` dedicated fanbase has once again had the final say.
Reflecting on the dynamic, Marchand mentioned that he grew up as a Maple Leafs fan and genuinely enjoys competing against them and the interactions with their supporters. He elaborated that he doesn`t take things too seriously and appreciates the back-and-forth, even finding enjoyment in being booed when playing in Toronto.
“I grew up a Leafs fan, and I enjoy playing against the Leafs,” Marchand said. “I enjoy interacting with fans. It`s fun. I don`t take myself too seriously. I love getting made fun of and I love making fun of people. If you can`t take it, then so be it. I`m going to enjoy the moments that I have.”
“When I come in here and I get booed, I`m good. I`m going to show it. I`m going to enjoy that.”
