Marchand Receives Game Misconduct After Fight with Gostisbehere

2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs

Brad Marchand quickly made his presence felt in the Eastern Conference Final.

Marchand was assessed a game misconduct penalty during the third period of Tuesday`s Game 1 versus the Carolina Hurricanes following a skirmish that escalated into a brief fight with defenseman Shayne Gostisbehere.

The Panthers forward skated towards Gostisbehere as the Hurricanes defenseman was competing for the puck in his defensive zone, appearing to attempt a late hit.

Although no penalty was called on that specific sequence, Gostisbehere responded just moments later by throwing a punch at Marchand.

Marchand then advanced towards the veteran defenseman, and the two players briefly traded punches while Florida held a 4-1 lead.

The officials issued Gostisbehere a two-minute minor penalty for roughing, while Marchand received a 10-minute game misconduct and a four-minute minor penalty for roughing.
