Marner and Tavares Address Futures After Maple Leafs’ Playoff Exit

What lies ahead for Toronto Maple Leafs forwards Mitch Marner and John Tavares?

Both players are set to become unrestricted free agents on July 1. They were questioned about their future plans on Sunday, shortly after the team`s season concluded with a decisive 6-1 defeat to the Florida Panthers in the seventh game of their second-round series.

When asked about the possibility of returning, Tavares responded simply with “Yes.”

Tavares, whose seven-year contract signed with his hometown club in 2018 expires this summer, shared his feelings: “It`s meant everything to me,” he stated. “It was a significant decision I made seven years ago, and I`ve truly enjoyed it. It`s been wonderful for both myself and my family.” He acknowledged the team`s performance, adding, “We just have to accept responsibility; we haven`t been able to perform well enough to achieve our goals.”

In contrast, Marner was non-committal when asked about his future with the Maple Leafs. His six-year deal is also expiring this summer.
