While some find playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs overwhelming due to the intense pressure, forward Max Domi views the situation with a different perspective.

According to Domi, speaking on The FAN Morning Show, the only accomplishment surpassing the experience of playing for the Maple Leafs is winning a Stanley Cup with the team – it`s that straightforward.

Although the 2024-25 season didn`t conclude as Domi, the organization, or the fans had wished, he remains confident that the team will be prepared when the next season begins.

“We have a determined group, and everyone within the team believes we can achieve success; anything less won`t suffice,” Domi stated. He added, “I`m really looking forward to the chance. I genuinely love playing here. I love playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs.”

As the son of former Maple Leafs enforcer Tie Domi, Max is no stranger to pressure, having encountered it throughout his career. He feels this pressure is precisely what makes the experience so rewarding.

Domi described pressure as “a significant privilege” – something athletes aspire to their entire lives. He acknowledged, “Is it simple? No, but nothing worthwhile is, and overcoming difficulties is what makes things enjoyable.”

This perspective extends beyond the rink into Domi’s personal life. Diagnosed with type 1 diabetes at age 12, the forward has openly shared his experiences managing the condition for the past 18 years and how it influences his preparation as a professional hockey player.

“The work that often goes unnoticed is the preparation leading up to a game,” he explained. “I typically begin preparing 24 hours beforehand, ensuring my glucose levels stay within the target range, eating appropriate foods, staying hydrated, and continuously monitoring the trend of my glucose levels.”

Off the ice, one of Domi`s priorities is supporting others living with type 1 diabetes. He serves as an ambassador for events like the Breakthrough T1D Walk in Toronto.

When asked about the significance of working with organizations like Breakthrough T1D, Domi stated, “It’s really about showing strong support for everyone managing type 1 diabetes.”

He explained that this involvement has built a community around him, constantly reminding him that he is playing for others with the condition. He aims to show both children and adults that living with type 1 diabetes doesn`t prevent them from pursuing their dreams and living their best lives.
