Born in Norway in 2007 to a Norwegian mother and Brazilian father, Mikaela moved to Rio de Janeiro at just two months old. It seems the vibrant energy of Rio had an almost immediate effect, leading her, like many in the city, towards volleyball. Her initial foray into the sport began around age 10 on the famed beaches, following the lead of her older brothers who played beach volleyball. The transition from sand to indoor courts within a club setting solidified her commitment and growing affection for the game.
Mikaela’s dedication faced a significant test approximately four years ago. While her mother and brothers decided to relocate back to Norway, Mikaela made the impactful decision to remain in Brazil, alongside her father, specifically to continue her volleyball career. “I have always really loved doing sports,” Mikaela explained, detailing her exploration of various activities before finding her calling.
