Miller vs. Woodstock: Commonwealth Featherweight Title Added to Queensberry Card

A significant domestic clash in the featherweight division has been officially confirmed: Zak Miller will face Leon Woodstock for the Commonwealth title. This bout is a notable addition to the undercard of the Jack Rafferty vs. Mark Chamberlain event, scheduled for August 23rd.

The fight night, promoted by Frank Warren`s Queensberry Promotions, is set to take place at the Altrincham Ice Dome in Cheshire, England. This confirms the focus of the event on the vibrant UK boxing scene.

For Zak Miller, holding a record of 16 wins and 1 loss with 3 knockouts, this represents a pivot in his career path. Having recently claimed the prestigious Lonsdale Belt (the British title) in February with a majority decision victory over Masood Abdulah, Miller has since vacated that belt. The decision to pursue the Commonwealth strap, rather than defend the British title against ordered opponent Rhys Edwards, signals a clear intent to maneuver internationally, potentially climbing the world rankings at 126lbs.

Miller`s only professional defeat came in a very close contest against Nathanial Collins. Collins has since demonstrated a level seemingly above the domestic scene with a strong performance against Lee McGregor, adding context to the caliber required at higher levels.

Leon Woodstock, with a record of 16 wins and 4 losses (7 by knockout), enters this fight after a planned bout against Rhys Edwards last month fell through due to injury, leading to Thomas Essomba stepping in. `The Lion` is coming off a 12-round battle against Kurt Walker in March, which he lost by a majority decision, ending a four-fight winning streak that he built following a loss to former world champion Anthony Cacace in 2021.

Despite his recent setback, Woodstock is widely regarded as a competitive and durable opponent. He is expected to provide a stern test for Miller, whose team will be hoping this is a stepping stone towards higher accolades.

The August 23rd card is shaping up to be a packed event. Alongside the Rafferty-Chamberlain main event and the newly announced Commonwealth title fight, Paris Olympian Lewis Richardson, who recently made his professional debut, is also slated to feature. Furthermore, hard-hitting super-flyweight prospect Jack Turner is set for a significant challenge against fellow unbeaten fighter Nicolas Agustin Muguruza from Argentina, adding international flavor to the domestic showcase.

With a key title on the line and several rising talents in action, the Altrincham show promises an evening of compelling boxing as fighters look to make their mark.
