Hockey forward Mitch Marner is eager to integrate into what he describes as the “family culture” and winning environment of the Vegas Golden Knights NHL team. He stated that these attributes perfectly matched his priorities, explaining his departure from the Toronto organization, which originally drafted him fourth overall in 2015, two years before Vegas joined the league.
Speaking at his introductory news conference on Tuesday, Marner specifically pointed to the “winning regimen” the Golden Knights have consistently demonstrated over their roughly eight years in the league. He also shared that recent conversations with former players like Max Pacioretty and Ryan Reaves provided positive insights, making the living situation in Vegas seem like an excellent fit for him, his wife, and their new son.
Furthermore, Marner highlighted the quality of the roster, noting, “the great players they have here. It’s where we wanted to be.”
Undoubtedly, the substantial eight-year contract valued at $96 million also played a significant role in his decision.
