UFC lightweight competitor Renato Moicano has shared his perspective on the recent contendership in the division, stating his belief that Arman Tsarukyan was the fighter who truly earned a shot at the title against Ilia Topuria, not Charles Oliveira.
“Looking at it strictly from a sporting viewpoint,” Moicano commented during his appearance on Ariel Helwani`s podcast, “Tsarukyan absolutely should be the one facing Topuria. He is, in my opinion, the definitive number one contender. I am convinced he was the one who should have been fighting for the championship belt against Topuria.”
Moicano clarified that the reason Oliveira got the fight instead likely came down to factors beyond performance. “However,” he added, “Charles Oliveira possesses significantly more charisma and a much larger global fanbase. People simply connect more with Charles, and that popularity is ultimately the reason why he secured the title opportunity.”
