Josh Morrissey has confirmed he would not have been able to participate further in the playoffs, even if the Winnipeg Jets had managed to continue their postseason journey.
During the Jets` end-of-season media availability on Tuesday, Morrissey updated reporters on the left knee injury he suffered. He stated that the injury does not require surgery but would have likely kept him out for the duration of any potential remaining playoff games.
“I basically knew kind of right away that I was injured, and obviously I felt something, so just frustration,” Morrissey commented on the moment of the injury.
The incident occurred late in the second period of Saturday`s game when Morrissey became entangled with Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen, who appeared to land awkwardly on the Jets` assistant captain`s left leg.
The team`s primary defenseman faced numerous injury and health challenges throughout the season.
“This year, just getting sick in the Four Nations, getting hurt in Game 7 (of the first round) and then having a freak injury in Game 6 (of the second round). It was just frustrating, frustrating this year that those situations happen,” he explained.
“But you can feel sorry for yourself, or unlucky, or whatever you want, but it is what it is. You just got to go back to work and continue to get better and prepare for next season and be ready for those moments when I get a chance to be in them again,” Morrissey added, reflecting on the setbacks.
Morrissey also disclosed that his absence from Game 1 against Dallas was because he was under concussion protocol following a hit he took during the Jets` Game 7 victory over the Blues.
