The Edmonton Oilers are gradually getting back to full strength as the playoffs approach.
Coach Kris Knoblauch announced on Saturday that forward Evander Kane is close to being cleared to play after recovering from knee surgery that kept him out all season.
In addition, defensemen John Klingberg and forward Trent Frederic might be ready for Game 1 against the Los Angeles Kings, according to Knoblauch.
However, defenseman Troy Stecher, who is dealing with an undisclosed issue, is expected to return later in the playoff series.
The Oilers will face the Kings in the first round, starting Monday.
Although Mattias Ekholm is out for the series, coach Knoblauch mentioned that other injured Oilers are recovering well.
Stars Leon Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, despite recent absences, are anticipated to play in Game 1.
Kane, 33, had a productive season last year with 24 goals and 20 assists in 77 games for the Oilers and also participated in 20 playoff games.
Kane expressed confidence about his return, referencing his past performance and current condition.
