Oilers’ Goalie Stuart Skinner Sidelines After Head Injury

The Edmonton Oilers may have to proceed without their primary goaltender for an undetermined period.

Stuart Skinner`s game ended prematurely on Wednesday when he received a knee to the head from Dallas Stars forward Mikko Rantanen.

During a play where a shot was aimed high, Skinner jumped to deflect the puck using his shoulder. As he descended and moved out of his goal crease, he collided with Rantanen`s knee as the Stars player skated by. The collision appeared to be unintentional.

Skinner remained on the ice briefly and was attended to by the Oilers` medical personnel.

Coach Kris Knoblauch informed reporters post-game that Skinner is not expected to accompany the team on their upcoming road trip to Seattle.

Prior to the injury, Skinner had conceded four goals out of 21 shots within approximately 46 minutes of play. He displayed visible frustration earlier in the game, hitting his stick against the Oilers` bench during a television timeout.

This season, 26-year-old Skinner has played 48 games, achieving a 24-17-4 record with a 2.87 goals-against average and a .895 save percentage.

Calvin Pickard, the backup goalie, took Skinner`s place in the net for Edmonton.
