The Edmonton Oilers are bolstering their defensive lineup.
The Oilers announced the signing of Finnish defenceman Atro Leppanen to a one-year, entry-level contract for the upcoming season.
Leppanen, 26, played 60 games this season with Vaasan Sport in Finland`s Liiga, where he achieved a remarkable 21 goals and 63 points, breaking the league record for points by a defenceman.
His performance included 42 assists, leading all defenders in the league, while his 21 goals were second among defenders.
The six-foot, 183-pound Leppanen also contributed three assists in eight post-season games.
Over two seasons in Finland`s top league, the left-shot Leppanen recorded 33 goals and 58 assists in 115 games.
