Anna Karolina Schmiedlova, a semifinalist at the Tokyo Olympics, has revealed she is pregnant.
The former world No. 26, who holds three career Hologic WTA Tour titles, has not competed since her qualifying loss to Varvara Gracheva in Doha back in February.
The Slovakian player shared the news, writing on Instagram last week, `Hello, I just wanted to let you know that the reason I haven`t been playing tournaments or been part of the BJKC team in April is because of my pregnancy. It`s a personal matter for me, but I wanted to share this to avoid any confusion in the coming months. My partner and I are very happy and excited.`
Schmiedlova`s partner is fellow Slovak tennis player Lukas Klein, an ATP professional currently ranked No. 173.
The 30-year-old Schmiedlova has won three WTA titles, in Katowice (2015), Bucharest (2015), and Bogota (2018), and reached the fourth round of Roland Garros in 2023. However, some of her most notable achievements came representing Slovakia, particularly at the Olympics. She secured all three of her career Top 10 victories on the Olympic stage, including impressive wins over Jasmine Paolini and Barbora Krejcikova en route to the semifinals in Paris last summer. She has also been a key member of Slovakia`s Billie Jean King Cup team, helping them reach the final last year.
