NEW YORK — In their previous three encounters, New York Islanders goalie Ilya Sorokin had successfully prevented Washington Capitals` star Alex Ovechkin from scoring.

However, on Sunday, Ovechkin broke that streak, achieving his 895th career goal – surpassing Wayne Gretzky`s record – during the second period. Despite Ovechkin`s milestone, the Washington Capitals were defeated by the Islanders 4-1.

With this goal, Sorokin becomes the 183rd goalie that Ovechkin has scored against in his NHL career.

Sorokin admitted to feeling pressure leading up to the game. “I felt a bit more of what Ovi feels most of his life, but on a much, much smaller scale. It`s a valuable experience for me,” Sorokin commented.
