Panionios Wins First Greek Cup in Club History

Panionios secured a historic victory, clinching their first-ever Women’s Greek Cup title by defeating AO Thiras 3-1 in the Final Four tournament.

In a packed “Tasos Kampouris” indoor arena, the Nea Smyrni team triumphed after 114 minutes, with set scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-27, 25-20.

Polina Rahimova was the top scorer for Panionios with 19 points, supported by Elitsa Vasileva Atanasijevic (17 points) and Bianka Risticevic (14 points). For AO Thiras, Rica Maase also scored 19 points, with Katarina Pavicic adding 15 and Anastasía Shirínina contributing 11.

Panionios’ dominant performance at the net proved crucial, as they recorded 22 blocks against AO Thiras’ eight.

Maria-Aikaterini Xanthopoulou, Panionios’ libero, earned the Most Valuable Player award for her exceptional defensive display throughout the final.
