Paul Mullin, the prolific striker who has always been a favourite of Wrexham`s Hollywood co-owners Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, continues to be the subject of considerable speculation regarding his future at the club.
Despite an impressive tally of 110 goals over four seasons, which contributed significantly to three consecutive promotion campaigns, Mullin has seen his standing in the team`s attacking hierarchy shift. He now faces strong competition for a place in the squad at SToK Racecourse.

With Wrexham preparing for the Championship season, a potential move elsewhere has been suggested for Mullin. However, many remain convinced that a player with his proven track record in the English Football League can still perform effectively in the second tier, provided he is free from injury and playing with confidence.
Wrexham icon Andy Morrell has challenged Mullin to make a strong statement this summer. Morrell stated, “I would love it if he stayed and gave himself that chance. We all know he`s got goals in him, he`s a finisher, and we`ve seen him show it against Championship sides in the past.”
Morrell added, “I hope he comes back really fit and goes and smashes pre-season – and perhaps gives the manager a decision to make.” While acknowledging that manager Phil Parkinson`s mind “may already be made up,” Morrell expressed his desire for Mullin to perform so well that he forces Parkinson into making a difficult choice. “I`d love to see him get that chance in the Championship,” he concluded.

In the `Welcome to Wrexham` documentary, Mullin revealed he “resented” being dropped and overlooked during the 2024-25 season, although he has since reconciled with the situation. Morrell believes such “emotion is understandable because he`s got such an attachment and done so much for the club.”
Morrell elaborated on the difficulty of the situation for the player: “It`s difficult to take for any player to sit there watching, but especially for him after it happened so quickly; from being main man to out of the squad. The hurt is obvious and that resentment could have been affecting his performance.” He expressed optimism, adding, “It`s good to hear he`s let it go and hopefully he can give himself that chance.”

Mullin currently has 12 months remaining on his contract. He is aware of the need to secure regular playing time, which may not be guaranteed at Wrexham despite his status as a modern-day legend. The club`s owners, Reynolds and McElhenney, continue to invest in more ambitious transfer deals, increasing competition for places throughout the squad.
